Buttonwillow Race Park - January 30, 2000
The day started in a wet way. Rain had poured all night on the track and we were
not sure of how the turn out would be. By the time the driver's meeting had
started, the event was filling up with racers. First was the driver's meeting to
go over the rules of safety. Next the drivers hit the track for road racing fun!
Speed Trial split the raceway into two courses. The West loop was for road
racing, and the East loop for drift practice.
Drivers raced to get their car lap times lower throughout the day on the West
loop and while waiting for their next run group they could practice drifting on
the East loop. Racers also could practice their car control on the skid pad (As
demonstrated by the R32 GT-R). The drifters said they had a blast and want more!
Speed Trial will be holding more drift-oriented events in the near future. For
this turn out on a rainy day these racers are really the hardcore!!
